EXPERTISETraining mathematical abilities in young learners is our expertise.

Magrid solution is the result of more than 5 years of research and development at the University of Luxembourg.

It is designed and developed by specialists in the field of cognitive development.

It has been tested by psychologists, educators, and teachers in Luxembourg, Germany, and France on 100s of students.

It’s further validated by pedagogists and educational scientists.

It’s been acquired by the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg for all public schools in Luxembourg.

A unique educational program

Magrid comes with a large number of training activities (>2500 training tasks) targeting the building blocks of early mathematical abilities. It further maintains young children’s motivation and interest and provides them with a profound and flexible understanding of mathematical concepts. All training activities have been developed in accordance with established developmental models of numerical cognition and further findings from empirical research on cognitive and numerical development.

Magrid is language independent, all the verbal instructions are replaced by the visual materials to transfer mathematical concepts and ideas intuitively and to reduce any extra cognitive loads in the process of learning.

The name ‘’Magrid’’ is derived from the word ‘’Mathematics Grid’’. A grid visually depicting the decimal system forms the basis of the tasks contained in Magrid. The grid allows for working on visuospatial, or geometrical as well as number specific tasks in a visual format. It serves as visual support for the processing of the respective exercises.

Variety of Training activities

Magrid solution includes 30 different number-specific (from non-symbolic tasks to symbolic tasks, the mapping between different representations of numbers and number sequence tasks), and simple arithmetic task types. Beyond that, it provides 18 different visuospatial task types focusing on different aspects of visuospatial ability that have been linked to mathematical development (visuo-motor integration, visual perception, spatial visualization, shape recognition, and differentiation). And each type of training activity comes with different difficulty levels. Overall, the number of task instances amounts to over 2.5 thousand training activities which makes Magrid a comprehensive training application.

Combination with external materials

Combination with external materials Magrid is not a solo application but it comes with external material, namely (paper) booklets. Booklets are supplementary physical books containing the templates of different tasks. The use of external material does, on the one hand, augment the visual support provided during the learning activities, and on the other hand, it makes it more suitable for the classroom context. This approach allows teachers (or parents) to actively guide children’s learning progress by providing them with the activities they consider the most appropriate.

Language-independent

The exclusively visual design of the application is independent of any language requirements. This was made possible by visualizing the mathematical concepts and ideas, and by providing real-time feedback on the students’ actions while they are trying to solve a task and guiding them towards finding the solution. The language free property makes early mathematical instruction intuitive and accessible to all children regardless of their language background or their proficiency in the language of instruction and can thus be used in school settings with heterogeneous student populations. This has the further advantage of being able to be used in any classroom across the world, to meet young learners’ needs equally.

APPWho can use Magrid?

Students, Parents, Teachers, Universities and Research Centers.

The application can be used either in classrooms in the school context, but it is also possible to use it independently from the school context at home. Magrid precisely offers the opportunity to deploy individual and interactive training and at their own pace, as if they had received one-on-one training.

Provides consistent, visual, and immediate feedback
