Coming This January 2026 to Magrid: A Bigger Numbers Upgrade + Smarter Support

Feature Release february 2026

A brand-new Numerical update is arriving in January 2026 on the Magrid app! This release introduces 4 new task types, over 500+ new activities, and meaningful design improvements, all carefully built to strengthen early maths skills through clear progression and supportive guidance.

As many families have shared that children are progressing rapidly with Magrid (sometimes very rapidly!), we’ve also made a small but important update to better lock the teacher/parent area.

What’s New?

4 brand-new numerical task types

Children will explore new ways to practise addition and quantity recognition, with a special focus on dice dot patterns—a key skill for building fast and intuitive number sense.

New task types include:

  • Match the Dice — recognise and match quantities shown on dice
  • Add Dice Dots — combine dot groups to practise early addition
  • Select the Largest — strengthen number comparison and reasoning
  • Adding Objects → Symbolic — a new variation that bridges concrete objects into symbolic number understanding

A major upgrade to Number Comparison

We’ve significantly improved the number comparison tasks to help children understand concepts more clearly and succeed with confidence.

What’s changed:

  • More engaging, meaningful visuals to clearly show what’s being compared
  • A smoother progression from object comparison to number comparison
  • Gradually increasing number ranges to support learning at the right pace
  • More choice and thinking: children now compare 2, 3, or 4 options, not just 2—encouraging analytical decision-making

Expanded addition learning (extended learning)

With a wider range of addition tasks, children will have more opportunities to:

  • Quickly recognise quantities
  • Combine groups visually
  • Link visuals to symbols
  • Practise addition in short, manageable sessions that fit into daily routines

Improved Parent / Teacher Lock

Following user feedback, we’ve updated the parental lock question to multiplication.

Why the change? Because many children have become so confident using addition with Magrid that they’ve managed to work out the previous lock and enter the teacher/parent area on their own!

More Content Across Existing Planets

In addition to the new tasks, many existing activities have been:

  • Extended with additional content
  • Refined for better balance and progression

After updating, you may notice that some previously completed planets or activities now appear incomplete. This is intentional.

These additions help ensure:

  • Stronger scaffolding across number skills
  • Smoother, more gradual progression
  • Children can still complete a few activities each day without sessions becoming too long

Smoother Visuals & Better Learning Support

You’ll also notice several design and support improvements throughout the app, including:

  • Smoother, clearer visuals
  • The simple star feedback has been replaced with a Celebration Lion to truly show their progress and success is valued
  • The introduction of Thinking Lion, who encourages children to retry incorrect or incomplete tasks

We’ve also completely overhauled many help and hint systems:

  • Clearer, more supportive guidance
  • Step-by-step hints
  • Short delays between prompts to allow extra processing time
  • Greater independence for children before answers are revealed
